Golden Thread

The Bird Sings Oral Tradition Song Library

Golden Thread

I have such fond memories recording this song with Te and Karisha Longaker very late one summer night.  In this song, Te has captured a beautiful, simple invocation for patient stillness that goes straight to the heart.  Thanks to Lyndsey Scott who shared this song with me for the first time during the pandemic.

Composer & Copyright

Original song copyright Te Martin. Please contact them for permission to record or perform for profit.

Recording

Recorded by Te Martin with Lisa G. Littlebird and Karisha Longaker in 2023.

Lyrics

In the place where the waters meet
Spider weaves a web
Casting a golden thread to the center of your knowing

In the place where the waters meet
Spider weaves a web
She says “be still and wait – it will all become clear”

Teaching Notes

When teaching this, I teach the first two lines as call and response, with all singers joining for the third line of each stanza. It works best with one drum holding a heartbeat.
